Output Data Format

During operation the MD-440 master sends vehicle data and/or classification results out of its RS-232 interface. When a PC is directly connected these data can be viewed with a terminal program. This looks for example as shown below:

Here every vehicle causes a sequence of a multi-line vehicle (data) message and a single line class message. The vehicle message has a head line followed by several axles lines. The head line is made up of three numbers: First the number of axles followed by the "electrical length" of the vehicle measured in cm and the maximum detuning of the inductive loop in arbitrary units. Each axle line consists of four numbers: The distance of the respective axle from the preceding one (in case of the first one the distance from the "electrical" car front), then the width of the axle followed by the width and length of the tire footprints, all measured in cm. In case of an error or if no angled sensors are present values which could not be computed are reported as "–1".

The following class message is made up of a class number and a class name. The class number is unique and denotes the internal vehicle class whereas several of these are allowed to share the same class name. Thus it is for instance possible to recognize trucks, trucks with trailers and semi-trucks with their quite different axle configurations separately while calling them all "HeavyVehicle" or – if desired – "Pay".

If the vehicle data are not of interest it is also possible to omit them. Then the class messages are sent without blanklines in between.

The host software must get these data from a COM port or whatever data link is used. If no immediate processing is required any common terminal program is able to perform this task.
